Good news versus bad news

In planning a trip to visit a client in Vancouver I referred to the recent post ice hockey unrest.  The client enquired as to whether the good news had also made it to New Zealand.  Whilst the “bad news” spread far and wide and almost instantaneously, the major media organisations had all but failed to communicate the astonishing good news – that the following day 20,000 volunteers had descended upon central Vancouver to tidy their city up.

The reason for mentioning this in a leadership blog is a reminder for us all to accentuate the positive and emphasis the “good news” in those we are charged with leading.  Remember that the bad news may travel further and faster, hence the importance of emphasising the good.
